WOOD FIRE GREG
When I first began my ceramics career in 2001, I studied under Wayne Hewell, a Master Potter from my hometown of Gillsville, GA. Wayne is a 4th generation potter and he’s one of the few potters that still wood fires his pieces the old school way. All of my early pieces (2001-2006) were fired in his wood kiln. Around 2007 I began using an electric kiln so I could have more control over the final look…and way less risk of losing a piece during the firing.
I went back to my roots on this Greg. Wood firing is a wild ride…flames, sand, ashes, brick and dirt all flying around in an intense 8 hour session of feeding wood by hand into an insanely hot kiln. The process creates a very unique look that can not be exactly replicated from one firing to the next. Each mug even looks different depending on where it is positioned in the kiln.
Wood Fire Greg is one of my favorite mugs simply due to the nostalgia I associate with wood firing…and because I was able to hang out and fire a kiln with my old mentor and friend. Wood Fire Greg is a tribute to the (almost) lost art of wood firing ceramics.
PLEASE READ: Due to the harsh environment inside a wood kiln, our typical quality control is not possible with wood fired mugs. All mugs may have areas on the surface that are rough (similar to sandpaper) due to ashes, sand and dirt flying around in the kiln and melting to the surface during the firing. The mugs are functional but they may not be comfortable to drink out of since the edges of the handles and rims have bits of sand that have melted into the glaze during the firing. Melted sand, kiln brick (falling from the kiln ceiling), etc. may be present on the interior and exterior of the mug. Each mug will vary slightly in color.

If our checkout system only charges you for standard international shipping, you will receive an invoice for the remainder of the upgraded DHL Express shipping option.
ATTENTION UK CUSTOMERS: Due to the new VAT requirements put in place by the United Kingdom, all customs forms for UK shipments will now be marked with a minimum declared value of $200 USD. All VAT and Customs Duty charges will be the responsibility of the customer.
